Gastric Sleeve Operation a Success 27th February 2008 !!
Wednesday, February 27th, 2008Today is the start of my new life of health and happiness!
I arrived in the DOSA waiting area, Leslie had come too but had to leave for work so mum stayed with me until the op. While anxiously waiting to start my new life, I met another one of Dr Jorgensens Patients Rita. She too was going to have surgery however Rita was having the banding done and I was having the sleeve. We exchanged details and vowed to keep in contact so that we can support eachother. I was 4th In line to be operated on so at around 12pm I was taken to theatre so I could be prepared for the Gastric Sleeve Operation. Dr Jorgensens Anasthesilogist Dr Goodie was unavailable on the day so we had an on call Anasthesilogist instead.
I remember being ithe pain as the Anasthesilogist was running the Arterial Lines in my wrist while I was awake. Shortly after the nurse placed the gas over my face and I drifted off to sleep. I woke up in the recovery ward at around 2:00pm feeling good and wasnt in too much pain or discomfort. I was then taken to ward 2 south where I spent 5 days until I was able to go home. I didnt have any vomiting bouts the only thing I had was a little nausea and feeling a little pressure in the chest area. The doctors thought It would be wise for me to have a CT Scan to make sure that the pain I was feeling wasnt any clots as I have had a History of Clotting caused by the Antibody Anticardiolipin. Once the results came back Dr Jorgensen came to visit me one last time to let me know that I am able to leave tomorrow being Sunday. He told me that he is happy with my recovery and that Im doing extremely with my new life changing experience. I am to follow up with Dr Jorgensen in 2 weeks then I will see Nazy the Dietitician to make sure that Im coping well with the meals etc.
I would like to thank all the staff in 2 south for all your support, advice and some handy hints regarding post op recovery as you all made my recovery time a blessing.
Thank you to Dr Diamond for helping me sort out my issues pre op thanks also for fitting me in your schedule in such short notice and thanks for visiting me while I was on the ward.
Thank you to Nazy a fantastic Dietician for guiding me along the way regarding my menu planning and supporting me pre and post op.
Sincere thanks go out to you Dr Jorgensen!! You have given me the opportunity to change my life around. To be able to feel like a human being, a mum and a wife. You are a fantastic Doctor who really cares about his patients and you are very passionate in your field of work. Im have no regrets about doing the Gastric Sleeve Operation actually I feel alive for the first time in my life. I wish there were more Doctors like you thanks again ![]()
